Comic Con Wantage 2016
Wantage, Oxfordshire, held it’s first ever Comic Con event last Sunday, which Ridgeway Tech had a booth at.
Among the stars who attended were Tina Simmons, Michael Henbury, Clem So, Mark Everex Collett, Matthew Dale and Lady Venom and Kitty Brooker who are both well known cosplayers who appear at Comic cons up and down the country. We also had a sneak exclusive from sci-fi actor Matthew Dale, who announced he would be starring in two roles in the new Star Wars movie: Rogue One.
There were movie cars outside The Beacon, where the event was held, as well as Storm Troopers, Robot Wars ‘star’ The Saint and two games in the Warhammer room run by Abingdon Gaming Club.
Next to the Warhammer room was the Retro gaming room, which included pc gaming with Ridgeway Tech. All our pc’s that we had on show were built by our Engineer Craig, some of which are ones used at his house by himself and his children, others like ‘Joker’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ were built especially for the show, to emphasise what can be done without spending a months wage. ‘Joker’ was giving customers the opportunity to play Battlefield 1, with the popular Counter Strike:Global Offensive (CSGO) showing off the AMD machine called ‘Dark Knight’. We had a tombola, with some of the proceeds going to Make A Wish foundation, shout out to BMAN who made a huge contribution to this great cause. Thank you to all who tried out our games, we hope it gave you an idea of how good the graphics can be when you join the pc master-race. Also a big thank you to Ethan who helped those who weren’t sure of the controls.
Our big attraction was the Rocket League competition we ran on a home theatre pc with wireless controllers, proving you don’t need a console for living room gaming. We had 14 competitors fighting their way through each round until we got to the final. Louis had the highest score in early rounds, Bill dominated all his matches so it was a final that could have gone either way. It was a close game which was ultimately won by Bill, who won the prize of a gaming keyboard. Well Done to both competitors for making it great to watch, and to everyone who took part.
I am sorry I don’t have any pictures of the main hall as we were so busy I did not have a chance, although I did shoot some video that will be coming in a follow up video on our youtube channel at some point.
We met some really cool people who love comic books, video games and geek culture. It really was a day to remember.
Thanks to Steve at Toy Planet Collectors for setting up the event, all the staff at The Beacon where it was held, Stockham School for lending us the tombola, Ann Marie for helping out with a laminator amongst other things and to Graeme at Kustom PC for sending us some custom case decals in time.
Last but not least thank you so much to all the team at Ridgeway Tech, my family for making the day a real success, shout outs to Pete, Tina, Phoebe AKA Wonder Woman, Lily-Mae aka Harley Quinn, Ethan aka Red Ranger and of course Jodie aka The love of my life. It would not have been possible without you guys, and I love you all.
